The main purpose of the Kinderhook Lake Corporation (KLC) is to maintain and improve Kinderhook Lake. Membership dues provide the largest source of income to allow the KLC to provide the following services:

  • Maintain and operate the DAM – without the dam, there would be no lake
    • Monitor, maintain, and adjust the sluice gate in an effort to regulate proper lake levels in accordance with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) guidelines
    • Maintain the spillway boards to allow for emergency water release in case of heavy rains
    • Monitor the dam structure and perform maintenance and repairs as necessary
    • Provide and maintain security fencing around the dam
  • Maintain the Rt. 28 boat access ramp and gate (gate keys available to members for $15)
  • Administer water treatment for control of algae growth in accordance with DEC guidelines
  • Administer water treatment for control of aquatic invasive species in accordance with DEC guidelines
  • Maintain and operate an aquatic weed harvester to manage the growth of aquatic invasive species in accordance with DEC guidelines
  • Organize and manage volunteer hand-pulling events each June to manage the growth of invasive water chestnuts
  • Maintain and monitor the fish population; coordinate fish stocking as necessary
  • Publish newsletters and maintain a website and Facebook page to keep KLC members, riparian owners, and the community informed of important and interesting news about the lake
  • Host the annual July 4th kayak rally, boat parade, and circle of lights for all lake users
  • Host an annual summer picnic or other fund-raising events
  • Offer “Kinderhook Lake” and “One Tree Island” logo merchandise for sale to raise additional funds
Annual operating expenses for the KLC to provide these services are approximately $35,000 to $40,000 (not including one-time expenses, such as the repairs to the dam in 2019-2020, which cost approximately $68,000).

A basic membership costs as little as $150 per calendar year per family.

The KLC Board of Directors appreciates your support.
