20. March 2023 · Comments Off on Lake Refill Starting April 1st · Categories: Dam, Drawdown, General Information, Uncategorized · Tags: , ,
On April 1st we will begin the process of refilling the lake to summer level in accordance with our DEC permit. The sluice gate will be lowered and the flashboards will be reinstalled atop the dam. As always, the time it takes to reach summer level is weather dependent.
Shoreline residents are asked to finish any shoreline projects and also clean their lakebeds by April 1st. Decaying leaves create nutrients for algae and invasive species to grow. Floating branches and twigs are a hazard to boating and often end up floating down to the dam and clogging the sluice gate.
10. July 2022 · Comments Off on Navigation Lights · Categories: Uncategorized
Boat owners and their guests on Kinderhook Lake are reminded that NYS Boating Law requires navigation lights to be displayed on all powered watercraft between sunset and sunrise.

Navigation lights include:
  1. One RED fore-port sidelight,
  2. One GREEN fore-starboard sidelight, and
  3. An all-around WHITE light at the rear of the boat at least three feet above the fore sidelights.
In addition, speed is regulated by the Town of Kinderhook at no more than 5 mph between sunset and sunrise.

Please be sure that your navigation lights are properly displayed at night and that your speed is kept to less than 5 mph.

Due to the severe flooding conditions on Kinderhook Lake, the KLC Board of Directors has declared the entire lake to be a NO WAKE LAKE until the water level recedes to normal summer level. Wake activity during flooding can cause severe damage to docks, docked boats, shorelines, and properties. Please operate your boats at IDLE SPEED ONLY during this crisis.
