02. June 2020 · Comments Off on Launch Parking Now Limited to KLC Members Only · Categories: General Information, Membership

Over the past few years, there has been an increase in parking congestion at the Rt. 28 launch. This means many KLC members have been unable to launch their boats or park their trailers. Therefore, going forward, the launch parking lot will be limited to KLC members only.

If you are not a KLC member, you may not park in the launch parking lot. Non-members are still welcome to launch cartop boats but must arrange to park elsewhere. Any non-members who would like to park at the launch must become a KLC member, leave their membership poster displayed on their dashboard as proof of membership, or have a trailer sticker if they have a trailer. If you are already a KLC member with a cartop boat, please be sure to display your member poster on your dashboard. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

On August 24th, the KLC held its Annual Member’s Meeting at the KLIA meeting hall. Several dozen members were present to hear reports of yearly activities from each board committee, and the board responded to questions from members. We are happy to welcome new board member Malonie Langdon and congratulate reelected directors Ron Jensis, Bernie Kelleher, Drew Nelson, and Pete Walkes.

Annual Meeting of Members

10:00am at the KLIA Hall

Members are urged to join the Board to hear about current and future issues around the lake.
It’s a great time to ask questions and share your suggestions.
Coffee and donuts will be provided.

KLC logo merchandise will be available, so it’s a perfect time to stock up on early holiday gifts,
including our new t-shirts and beer and wine glasses.

Looking forward to seeing all our members there.

The annual membership meeting required by the KLC bylaws will take place on Saturday, August 22nd, 10:00am at the KLIA Community Hall on Electric Park Road. All KLC members are asked to attend. The agenda includes approval of 2014 meeting minutes, treasurer’s report, election of directors for class of 2018, unfinished business, new business, questions and comments. The meeting usually lasts no longer than 90 minutes. If you cannot attend, please complete and return the proxy form that was mailed to all members; this will assure that there is a quorum for the meeting.

As requested at last year’s annual meeting, we are publishing the Draft Minutes of the 2014 Annual Meeting of Members for review prior to the upcoming meeting on August 22nd.

Due to limited parking at the Rt. 28 launch site, all trailers parked at the launch must display a special KLC trailer permit. Permits will be mailed with gate keys when you provide your trailer license number(s) along with your membership application. One permit will be provided for each trailer license number. Trailers parked at the launch without permits will be noted or tagged and may be towed at the owner’s expense upon multiple infractions. Thanks for helping us control parking at the launch.

We have been running into a delay in getting out the gate keys and trailer stickers. Rest assured the launch gate will remain open until after the keys have been distributed to members. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The KLC has produced a “Welcome to Kinderhook Lake” tri-fold brochure to be provided to new community residents in an effort to introduce them to our Lake and the KLC. The brochure includes basic information about the Lake location, features, history, water quality, watercraft and fishing. It also explains the purpose of the KLC and lists what the KLC does to maintain the dam and lake for all to enjoy. We hope this will help new residents better understand our community and encourage them to support the KLC via membership. The brochure will be published locally in small quantities, so changes can be made to future editions if new ideas or suggestions are implemented.  If you would like to see what the brochure looks like, please use the ‘Quick Link’ in the right-hand column. If you know of any new community residents, on or off the lake, who could benefit from this brochure, please email their name and address to

The Kinderhook Lake Corporation has become aware of the concerns for invasive aquatic species being found in ponds, lakes and rivers throughout the region, and several that are already present in Kinderhook Lake. Some species are so small, you may not see them or realize they are hitching a ride with you on your boat, trailer or fishing gear.

The Corporation is currently evaluating alternative methods to help stop the spread of invasive species entering Kinderhook Lake. Education appears to be the logical first step, along with following some general procedures to help protect our waters. To this end, the KLC has arranged for a presentation on invasive aquatic species by DEC Regional Fisheries Manager, Chris VanMaaren, at our Informational Meeting on June 29th, 10:00 AM at the KLIA Hall. All members, their families and friends are invited to attend. In addition, the link in the right-hand column will take you to a list of general procedures you can follow to help stop invasive aquatic hitchhikers.

Together we hope to make a difference.

In light of recent concerns regarding preserving our fish population, reducing the potential of invasive aquatic species entering the Lake and keeping our Lake enjoyable for all members, the KLC is instituting several new guidelines.

  1. Fishing tournaments will not be permitted on Kinderhook Lake without written permission in advance from the KLC Board of Directors. In addition, all tournament attendees must be current KLC Members. Please contact Russ Camadine at 30 days in advance if you wish to sponsor a fishing tournament.
  2. Launch gate keys are for KLC members only. Please do not share keys with non-members or you risk losing your gate privileges. Remember to lock the gate after every use to prevent non-member access.
  3. In response to member’s suggestions at last summer’s public meetings, the KLC has adopted new “Recreation Guidelines.” The guidelines will be posted at various access points around the lake and can be viewed by clicking the link in the sidebar to the right..
