The KLC has a NEW Online Membership & Donation Form for 2023. The new online form will provide direct downloads to our DonorPerfect database system, which we have been using for many years to track memberships, donations, and sponsors. Using the new online form will reduce countless hours of manual data input by KLC volunteers and help to reduce database errors.

Although paper membership applications will still be available, we urge ALL members, donors, and sponsors to please begin using the NEW Online Membership & Donation Form. The new form is simple and safe to use.

We thank you for your cooperation in this new endeavor. If you have questions about the new payment system, please send your inquiry to klc@kinderhooklakecorp.org.

06. September 2022 · Comments Off on Notes from 2022 Annual Members’ Meeting · Categories: General Information, Meeting, Membership

For those KLC members who were not able to attend the annual membership meeting on Saturday, August 27, here is a very brief review of committee reports and member discussions.

  • The Treasurer presented and explained the Statement of Activity by Class for 2022 through July 31, along with total available cash in savings and checking accounts.
  • The Membership Committee reported on a total of 326 paid KLC members through July 31, 2022, falling slightly short of 2021 memberships but ahead of 2020 memberships, and that only about 55% of lakeshore owners are KLC members.
  • The Fish Committee reported on the potential to stock largemouth bass next spring in various weedy locations around the lake.
  • The Weed Committee reported on last year’s success in eradicating Eurasian Milfoil and what weed species are now present in the lake. Live samples of eight different weed species found in the lake this summer were available in water-filled containers for members to view.
  • The Water Quality Committee reported on the copper sulfate treatments to control the growth of blue-green algae and the ability to keep the water clarity at a 4.5- to 5.0-foot depth for most of the summer, a preferred depth to help reduce an overabundance of weed growth. A final copper sulfate treatment is tentatively scheduled at the end of Labor Day weekend, on the final day treatments are permitted by our DEC permit.
  • The Merchandise Committee reported on total merchandise sales and profit to date.
  • The Fundraising Committee reported on another successful Community Lake Day at One Tree Island. Raffle prize winners were recognized and total profit from the day was reported.
  • The Ad Hoc Committee assembled to review the Town of Chatham Comprehensive Plan reported on the Position Paper presented to the Town at the end of 2021. The Paper discussed how and why water quality issues could be affected by development within the Kinderhook Lake watershed, requested that land within the watershed be designated as an environmental district, and asked that the KLC be designated as an interested party in potential development within the watershed.

General discussions before the meeting was adjourned included information about the differences between the KLC and KLIA, ways to increase lakeshore owner membership, why the KLC cannot require lakeshore owner memberships, a request for more KLC public events, and more.

Thorough minutes of the annual meeting will be available to KLC members in August of next year.

09. January 2022 · Comments Off on Rising Costs · Categories: General Information, Membership, Update

Hardly a day goes by without news of rising inflation. We see rising prices of food, gas, building material, cars, almost everything. And of course, it’s no different for the KLC. Our basic operational costs have been rising for years while membership dues have essentially remained the same since 2008 (except a small $15 raise to the basic membership in 2014). The cost of printing, postage, envelopes, gate lock and keys, copper sulfate, equipment maintenance, winter storage, insurance, etc. are all rising. In addition, the KLC continues to transfer $850/month from the General Fund to the Dam Reserve Fund. While last year members generously donated over $75,000 towards the cost of ProcellaCor to successfully treat Eurasian milfoil, the KLC had to spend over $12,000 from the General Fund to make up for the total treatment cost of almost $88,000. And please remember that the KLC receives no additional funding from any private or public agencies or municipalities. Accordingly, we find it necessary to increase each level of membership dues by $25: basic membership to $150, sustaining membership to $200, and benefactor membership to $225. Launch gate keys will remain at $15. We’ll now offer a single business sponsorship level at $200, which includes a basic membership.

We hope you will continue to support the KLC through membership dues and business sponsorships and strongly urge you to consider donating to our restricted funds. Restricted funds include the Dam Reserve Fund (for future improvements, maintenance, and flood control measures at the dam), the Weed Management Fund (to help control the growth of invasive and nuisance aquatic vegetation), the Water Quality Fund (to continue herbicide treatments to control algae growth), and the Fish Stocking Fund (for stocking game fish and habitat).

Thanks for your understanding and continued support.

02. June 2020 · Comments Off on Launch Parking Now Limited to KLC Members Only · Categories: General Information, Membership

Over the past few years, there has been an increase in parking congestion at the Rt. 28 launch. This means many KLC members have been unable to launch their boats or park their trailers. Therefore, going forward, the launch parking lot will be limited to KLC members only.

If you are not a KLC member, you may not park in the launch parking lot. Non-members are still welcome to launch cartop boats but must arrange to park elsewhere. Any non-members who would like to park at the launch must become a KLC member, leave their membership poster displayed on their dashboard as proof of membership, or have a trailer sticker if they have a trailer. If you are already a KLC member with a cartop boat, please be sure to display your member poster on your dashboard. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

23. September 2019 · Comments Off on Annual Members’ Meeting · Categories: Meeting, Membership

On August 24th, the KLC held its Annual Member’s Meeting at the KLIA meeting hall. Several dozen members were present to hear reports of yearly activities from each board committee, and the board responded to questions from members. We are happy to welcome new board member Malonie Langdon and congratulate reelected directors Ron Jensis, Bernie Kelleher, Drew Nelson, and Pete Walkes.

Saturday, August 27

Annual Meeting of Members

10:00am at the KLIA Hall

Members are urged to join the Board to hear about current and future issues around the lake.
It’s a great time to ask questions and share your suggestions.
Coffee and donuts will be provided.

KLC logo merchandise will be available, so it’s a perfect time to stock up on early holiday gifts,
including our new t-shirts and beer and wine glasses.

Looking forward to seeing all our members there.

The annual membership meeting required by the KLC bylaws will take place on Saturday, August 22nd, 10:00am at the KLIA Community Hall on Electric Park Road. All KLC members are asked to attend. The agenda includes approval of 2014 meeting minutes, treasurer’s report, election of directors for class of 2018, unfinished business, new business, questions and comments. The meeting usually lasts no longer than 90 minutes. If you cannot attend, please complete and return the proxy form that was mailed to all members; this will assure that there is a quorum for the meeting.

As requested at last year’s annual meeting, we are publishing the Draft Minutes of the 2014 Annual Meeting of Members for review prior to the upcoming meeting on August 22nd.

Due to limited parking at the Rt. 28 launch site, all trailers parked at the launch must display a special KLC trailer permit. Permits will be mailed with gate keys when you provide your trailer license number(s) along with your membership application. One permit will be provided for each trailer license number. Trailers parked at the launch without permits will be noted or tagged and may be towed at the owner’s expense upon multiple infractions. Thanks for helping us control parking at the launch.

We have been running into a delay in getting out the gate keys and trailer stickers. Rest assured the launch gate will remain open until after the keys have been distributed to members. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
